About Us

The Straw Project is spearheaded by a group from ST. Scholastica’s College Manila, a group responding to the call of our dying sea turtles.

Started in March 2017, it aims to save our sea turtles by eradicating the use of plastic straws that harm them.

Goals:

  • To INFORM other people about the effect of using plastic straws in our environment, especially to the sea turtles
  • To SPREAD AWARENESS about this problem in the sea and SHARE to people the possible solutions regarding the matter of plastic straws
  • To PUT INTO ACTION and also help others perform the action of eliminating the use of straws and call for a change.

Our sea turtles are dying and we have to save them.

A team of scientists in Costa Rica found out that our endangered species of sea turtles have plastic straws blocking their airway. Plastic straws are one such single-use item ending up in our oceans by hundreds and thousands. Plastic can never be biodegradable that is why it is crucial for our oceans and the ecosystem there if we don’t put an action to stop the use of plastic straws.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP

  • If you don’t need straw, don’t use one. We can eradicate the use of plastic straws just by simply not using them.
  • Start asking for no straw in restaurants or in any local eatery to avoid handing straws out with every single drink automatically.
  • Buy yourself a reusable straw. Disposable straws are thrown to the oceans transforming them into plastic soups.
  • Share this website to spread awareness about this matter.
  • Join us and sign our petition to help eradicate the use of plastic straws.
